Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education at Aureus Primary (SMSC)
At Aureus Primary we pledge to plan and deliver a learning experience to nurture outward looking students, who have a clear understanding of the world around them.
The SMSC education opportunities have been carefully created to support your child to grow, learn and flourish as young adults with skills for a global workplace. Our whole school community will support SMSC as it will prepare students for the responsibilities they will encounter later in life.
SMSC opportunities are embedded within our curriculum and are an integral part of our community time in the afternoon.
Spiritual education supports students to understand and value world religions. Students will have opportunities to reflect on their understanding through Philosophy for Kids activities as well as through imaginative and creative tasks. All staff and students are expected to uphold our community tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Moral education supports students to recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views. We will explore topical issues through community and curriculum time to enable students to verbalise, debate and value different viewpoints.
Social education supports our students to be fully fledged members of their local community by developing their social skills. Aureus Pimary students are encouraged to participate, volunteer and cooperate with their community. By developing social education opportunities our students will gain an ability to resolve conflict and engage with the British values of democracy, rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.
Cultural education is part of every conversation at Aureus Primary. Students will learn through lessons and enrichment opportunities to appreciate cultural influences and to participate in cultural opportunities. Aureus Primary School is a community which understands, accepts, respects and celebrates cultural diversity.
