Make an application to secondary school

Parents/Carers of children in Year 6 must apply for a Secondary School place during September - October the year before their child is due to transition.

At Aureus Primary School we share GLF’s commitment that all our children transition successfully to their next stage of education, training, or employment.  At the end of Year 6, Aureus Primary pupils progress to a variety of secondary settings, including Aureus School, Didcot Girls School and St Birinus School.

We are proud be part of GLF Schools, the same Academy Trust with Aureus School, rated Good in all areas by Ofsted in 2024. In 2025 100% of students from Aureus progressed to further education including apprenticeships. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 benefit from taster and enrichment days throughout the year such as PE sessions, science workshops, various masterclasses, Humanutopia and the annual Christmas production. For more information, please visit https://www.aureusschool.org/

Consider schools in your catchment area

Many, but not all, secondary schools have catchment (or designated) areas.

Where your child has a catchment area school, they are more likely to get a place, but it isn't guaranteed. If there are more applications than places, Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) follow the school's published admission rules to decide priority. OCC advise that you list your catchment school as one of your preferences if there is one for your address.

Attending their catchment school does not guarantee that your child will get free home to school transport.
