GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Curriculum 

Wider Curriculum

This term, our Wider Curriculum focus is Technology and we will be answering the question ‘How have structures influenced our lives?’ As part of our final project, we will be adding to a wattle and daub structure on the school grounds. We will also be designing and creating a cave painting which represents life in the Stone Age.
Throughout the learning journey we will:
• Explore the properties of different rocks and soils.
• Classify rocks according to their properties.
• Describe how fossils are formed.
• Order periods of time chronologically.
• Compare and contrast time periods in prehistoric Britain.
• Compare and contrast structures in prehistoric Britain.
• Investigate the effects of water on daub.
• Explore the features of prehistoric art.
• Explore different printing techniques.

Maths 

This term, we will be thinking about composition and calculation of numbers up to and across the 100 boundary. We will learn:
• To understand a three-digit number is composed of hundreds, tens and ones.
• To understand each number from 0 to 1000 has a unique position on the number line.
• To identify that 100 is the smallest three-digit number and 999 is the largest three-digit number.
• To understand how known number facts can support adding and subtracting multiples of 100.
• To write a three-digit multiple of ten as a multiplication equation.
• To add and subtract hundreds and tens.

Writing 

This term, we will be writing the chapter of a story based around the book ‘Stone Age Boy’. Throughout this learning journey we will:
• Write using subordination (when, if, that, because) and co-ordination (or, and, but). This is securing a Year 2 objective.
• Use adverbs to express time and place, exploring their use a sentence opener and within a sentence.
• Experiment with adjectives to create impact.
• Group ideas into basic paragraphs.


Following this, we will be writing instructions based on our Wider Curriculum project.

Reading 

This term, we will be exploring the text: ‘The Pebble in my Pocket.’
We will be learning to:
• Retrieve key details by reading closely.
• Respond to the core themes in a text.
• Find evidence to support a given inference.
• Identify an appropriate theme for a text.
• Use clues to interpret the intended meaning.

Computing 

During this unit, learners will develop their understanding of digital devices further. The children will look at media animation including planning and creating their own story boards.

HRE 

This term, we will be focussing on health and well-being. 
In the first half of the term, we will focus on ‘Ourselves, Growing and Changing.’ We will learn:
• About personal identity; what contributes to who we are.
• To recognise our individuality and personal qualities.
• How to manage setbacks/perceived failures and how to reframe negative thinking.


In the second half of the term, we will focus on 'Safeguarding Ourselves’. We will learn:
• Reasons for following and complying with regulations and rules (including age restrictions).
• To consider how rules help promote personal safety and well-being with reference to social media, television, games and online gaming.
• About the importance of keeping personal information private.
• About hazards (including fire risks) that may cause harm or injury.
• About how to identify which household products are harmful and the importance of asking adults before using household products.
• How to predict, assess and manage risks in certain situations.
• Strategies for keeping safe in familiar and unfamiliar environments as well as firework safety.
• How to dial 999 and what to say.

MFL 

Our unit this term is called “All About Me”. This term, we will learn more of the French language. The children will learn to:
• Follow some classroom instructions.
• Name parts of the body.
• Name different colours .
• Name clothes and ask and answer questions about what is in a wardrobe.
• Say what they are wearing.

Music 

This term, we will continue to receive weekly Ukulele lessons from the Oxfordshire Music Service. 

PE 

This term, our indoor PE will be badminton. We will learn to:
• Control the racket and shuttlecock effectively.
• Perform an under arm serve.
• Perform an over arm hit with the racket.
• Perform an under arm hit with the racket.
• Move around the court – lunge.
• Play a singles game.


This term, our outdoor PE will be hockey. We will learn to:
• Dribble the ball.
• Pass the pall from a short and long distance.
• Pass the ball when moving.
• Receive the ball.
• Shoot the ball into a goal/target.

RE This term, we will explore the big question, “Who experiences true freedom?’ Over the course of the unit,we will learn to:
• Explain key features of the Jewish festival of Rosh HaShanah.
• Explain key features of the Jewish celebration of Hannukkah.
• Explain key features of some non-religious celebrations.
