When you’re back in school on Tuesday say Ramadan (pronounced Ram-a-dah-n) Mubarak to your Muslim Student(s). It doesn’t matter if their fasting or not. It’s a holy month. :)

Home Learning

At Aureus Primary we encourage our families to work together on activities which help to consolidate and extend your child’s learning. We aim to promote a love of learning through activities which can be enjoyed at home, giving your child the best chance to develop skills that they will use both at home and in the classroom.

Activities that children may bring home in Daisies and Daffodils Classes include:

  • Phonics and spelling activities - to secure an understanding of letters and sounds and develop early reading skills
  • Reading for pleasure - a variety of texts to enjoy at home to develop reading skills such as fluency and comprehension, and of course, a passion for reading. A ‘reading diary’ will accompany the books home in order to log your child’s reading journey.
  • Maths activities - games and activities to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts, develop a secure ‘number sense’ and build maths confidence
  • Fine motor skills activities - these activities will support your child with pencil control

Activities that children in Poppies Class may bring home include:

  • Reading for pleasure - a variety of texts to enjoy at home to develop reading skills such as fluency and comprehension, and of course, a passion for reading. A ‘reading diary’ will accompany the books home in order to log your child’s reading journey.
  • My Maths - This is an online resource whereby we can personalise activities to your child to extend or consolidate the maths work they complete in school. They can complete their activities online using an iPad or a PC.
  • Spelling activities - A list of all the words that children are expected to know by the end of year 2 will be sent home after half term. Spelling and Grammar activities may be sent home to support your child with learning this vocabulary.

At Aureus Primary we understand that family time is precious. We want our children to enjoy their home learning experiences and would like to be able to support our families in helping their children to learn at home successfully. Throughout the year we will be offering family learning experiences to build parent and carer confidence in areas of the curriculum and in child development. We also add any useful web links to our Parent & Carers Bulletin which we feel may help support your child’s learning at home.

Please remember that our home learning activities are personalised for each child, therefore there is no need to worry if your child receives something different from their peers and their siblings.

Aureus Primary Passport (of Experiences)

Our pupil’s holistic development and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us at Aureus. As well as activities to support academic achievement, we will also be developing, with input from our pupils, an ‘Aureus Passport of Experiences’ for each child in the school.

This will comprise of a list of exciting learning opportunities, which can be completed in school or at home, which provide opportunities to try new things, visit new places and meet new people!
